Michael Kodari, Founder and CEO of Kosec (Kodari Securities), is one of Australia’s most consistent, top-performing investors. A philanthropist and a prominent expert in the stock market, CNBC Asia has referred him to as “the brightest 21st century entrepreneur in wealth management” and “a trailblazer within the Australian stock market”. Featured on Australia’s Channel 7 as the “Money Expert” on the weekly Sunday program Elevator Pitch, he is recognised internationally by governments as one of the world’s best. He was the guest of honour for the Inside China’s Future event, selected from the funds management industry by the Chinese government, held in Sydney in April 2014.

With a strong background in funds management and stockbroking, Michael has worked with some of Australia’s most successful value investors and consulted to leading financial institutions. Michael writes for Australia’s key financial publications and is regularly interviewed by various media including Australian Financial Review, Business Review Weekly, Sydney Morning Herald, Sky News – Switzer, Your Money Your Call, Market Moves and Lunch Money. He has also conducted seminars for the Australian Investors Association and contributes to Australian Shareholders’ Association as well as Kaplan Education.

Laurence works on all elements of investments, research, media, marketing, recruitment, professional development and strategy. He chairs the daily Investment Committee meetings, edits and approves the publication of research from the KOSEC Media Centre and runs internship programmes with approved university partners including UNSW.

His market commentary has been published in Kodari Magazine and Ben & Co Magazine. Alongside print media, Laurence has appeared on Sky News Business as a guest host, panellist and live-cross commentator. In addition to live TV he has also appeared on live national radio for 2ue and for the audio podcasts of Your Money Your Call. Having lectured extensively in the UK and China, Laurence delivers the keynote speeches for Kodari Conferences in venues across Sydney.

Laurence was educated at St Olave’s Grammar School, a leading selective public school in Greater London and then St Catherine’s College Oxford University. There he read Politics, Philosophy and Economics, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in 2004 and a Master’s degree in 2008. As an undergraduate Laurence sat on the St Catherine’s JCR committee, wrote for the Cherwell newspaper and debated within the Oxford Union. Having relocated to Sydney with his wife Helen the couple became parents to Charles in 2018 and live in Cammeray.

Travis Dokumcu

Travis has been in the financial services industry for more than 15 years, with experience in institutional sales trading, execution, corporate finance and marketing. He holds a Master of Applied Finance and is a licensed Designated Trading Representative. Through his studies and experience, he has gained extensive knowledge of various exchange trading platforms and their rules and regulations, including algorithmic trading strategies.

Travis adapts to continuously changing market conditions with confidence and makes clear decisions in a fast-moving, high-pressure environment. He is a great communicator who builds strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, always acting in the best interests of KOSEC’s clients.

Travis is able to execute buyback mandates on behalf of ECM within regulatory restrictions and has been as a source of market intelligence to sales/dealer teams on flows and market developments. He has had direct experience in handling primary deal flow, IPOs and placements via ECM book. Travis leads the firm’s sales capabilities and fosters relationships with institutional and retail clients while maintaining 100% observance of all ASIC requirements, industry conduct rules and KOSEC compliance standards.

James Simpson

James comes to KOSEC with a wide range of life experiences which have him well primed to assist our clients with their investment needs. With superior interpersonal skills and a strong interest in financial markets, James has been a valuable addition to the KOSEC team.

Working alongside clients to receive the latest macroeconomic news, company announcements and price action, James is known for his polite, calm and empathetic style. James is also a regular contributor to the organisation’s media centre, drawing upon his experience as an amateur broadcaster.

In his spare time, James enjoys working voluntarily in the community, especially with the temporarily homeless. James reads widely, especially on international relations, and has a long-standing link through his family to international economic development.

Trey Cheek

Trey has more than six years of experience within the financial services industry. He came to us from the United States and brought a broad array of experience, which ranges from wealth management to credit product development. Prior to joining KOSEC, Trey worked at Wells Fargo, the third-largest financial institution in the United States. He has sat on countless investment committees for both the ASX and NYSE.

Trey holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Advertising with a minor in History from Appalachian State University in North Carolina. He utilises knowledge gained through his studies and interpersonal communication skills to benefit existing and prospective clients. His prowess in both American and Australian equity markets adds a unique, international perspective to the team. His most critical area of expertise lies within domestic businesses that have some capacity of exposure to the US markets. His vast knowledge of macroeconomic trends has benefited countless clients.

Trey is an avid traveller, having visited five continents and more than 35 countries. His favourite country was Peru due to the plethora of cuisines, fantastic culture and beautiful views. He is also an active philanthropist, volunteering his time and efforts to benefit the local community.

George Al-Azar

Hailing from Boston, USA, George moved to Sydney five years ago. He brought with him more than three years of experience working in business development in various industries. His true passion is in financial markets and assisting clients to grow their wealth. George sits on the Investment Committee, giving his expertise on US equities in regards to the NASDAQ, Dow Jones and S&P 500. One area of expertise is in domestic businesses that have exposure to the US, such as Aristocrat Leisure, Boral, CSL, Cochlear and Reliance Worldwide Corp LTD. He has also studied Public Relations at the University of Technology Sydney.

George has used his experience in various industries to cover any client concerns when it comes to entering the world of financial markets. His experience in Australian and US equities allows him to benefit clients’ various financial needs. He is extremely enthusiastic when it comes to growing his clients wealth while maintaining 100% observance of all ASIC requirements and KOSEC compliance standards.

George’s passion outside of financial markets is in American sports, mainly NBA and NFL. He has also helped out the local council from time to time to aid the local community. George has travelled to various countries and experienced vastly different cultures which have helped his effort to bring new clients on board.

Charles Odontuyaa

Charles studied Commerce, majoring in Professional Accounting, at Macquarie University. He went on to gain experience in Corporate Law and Accounting. His role as a Business Analyst in these industries entailed liaising with various stakeholders, chairing meetings and assisting in the restructuring process of corporate entities.

However, Charles’ passion lies in the stock market and the financial services industry which naturally led him to an Associate role at KOSEC. Charles is immensely enthusiastic when it comes to assisting investors grow their wealth and achieving results for clients. He utilises his diverse skill set to build strong relationships with clients and all other stakeholders of the business.

Charles has been involved in many extracurricular activities, such as volunteering overseas in economically-challenged communities. He has been recognised for his leadership abilities numerous times, holding managerial positions in previous roles and being School Captain. These experiences have allowed him to bring many qualities that are beneficial in a fast-paced environment to his role at KOSEC.

Logan Wong

Logan joined KOSEC as an associate and brought with him several years of experience in the capital markets. Prior to joining KOSEC, Logan held various management roles in the Pharmaceutical Retail Sector where he successfully met KPI goals to attain financial targets within the company’s budgets.

In the capital markets, Logan has worked on several capital-raising events from property to biotech, where he was able to apply his skills in the financial and pharmaceutical sector through market research and analysis.

Logan’s passion for the capital markets allows him to bring on new clients and enables them to reach their financial goals through various general financial advice. He connects clients with the correct members of the Kosec team based on solid market research or technical analysis on when to buy and sell stocks.

Dealing Assistants

Throughout the calendar year, there are thousands of trading hours where the ASX exchange is open for business. Our dealing assistants, as a team, monitor the market every minute it is open. They discuss company announcements, broker calls and monitor price action in order to answer questions and provide general advice about Kodari Securities research and analysis.

Paul is a member of the Research and Dealing Team at Kosec. He grew up in New Zealand and attended Massey University, where he majored in subjects within the business, science and engineering schools.

With an indisputable passion for economics, politics and science, Paul was head hunted by Macquarie Group. He relocated to Sydney, Australia, to commence his professional career in financial services. Paul worked within the wealth management team, dealing with high-net worth private clients, corporations, trusts and charities.

As part of the Investment Committee at KOSEC, Paul is responsible for identifying economic trends within the market and analysing the company’s future growth prospects, all being part of the valuation model for potential opportunities.

Will comes from a business management background. Along with being an active contributor to the monthly reports he is also completing his MBA at the Australian Institute of Business.

Before KOSEC Will established and developed businesses in NZ, Australia and the UK. Will studied with Kaplan Professional, gaining qualifications in margin lending, superannuation and securities.

As a member of the KOSEC Investment Committee, Will has an excellent understanding of technical analysis and is uses technical indicators to pick the right timer to buy and sell to ensure your money is working hard for you.

Christopher Youseff

Christopher joined KOSEC in November after completing a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Finance and Economics, at the University of Sydney.

He has worked in a mid-tier law firm in Sydney, operating in the company’s administration and finance departments. Christopher has a strong interest in following the stock

market, continually monitoring the broader global markets and individual stocks of the Australian market.

Christopher’s extra-curricular activities also allow him to excel in his role. He has developed strong leadership skills through continued engagement in sporting teams and involvement in the community. Understanding and determination are integral to Christopher’s daily role at KOSEC, whether it be the provision of general advice to clients, communication with colleagues or research.

His particular areas of interest include portfolio and risk management, macroeconomics and psychology of investors.

Research Analysts

Through attending AGMs, conferences and contacting investor relations, the research team works to collate, analyse and evaluate all of the market movements which could influence the values and current prices of the top 300 listed businesses on the ASX by market capitalisation. The research material our team produces is designed to be engaging and easily digestible. The team is more than happy to field calls and discuss the content in greater detail.

Sean Toor

Research Analyst

Sean sits on the investment committee at Kosec and is Editor-in-Chief of the company’s monthly report. He holds a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Applied Finance, specialising in Investments, from the Sydney Graduate School of Management at Western Sydney University. He graduated with his name on the Dean’s merit list for academic excellence for both Masters degrees.

Prior to his role at KOSEC, Sean analysed equities and fixed-income securities in Australia and New Zealand, where he was able to develop his skills in research, technical analysis and evaluation. He’s responsible for research, investments, dealing and operations at KOSEC and plays a key role in the success and distribution of the monthly report.

Sean honed his leadership skills as a teenager, becoming an academic prefect at one of the leading private schools in India and representing his state at the national cricket championships. He was named captain of the Under 19s side, giving him the skills to critically analyse situations and remain calm under pressure.

Roger Haidar

Roger Haidar has a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Commerce, majoring in Applied Finance

and Economics. He is a skilled analyst with experience in financial modelling and valuation, attained through previous roles in corporate advisory and equity research at numerous boutique investment banks. He is furthering his education in financial markets with a Master of Finance at the University of Technology Sydney.

Since joining KOSEC, Roger has analysed macroeconomic trends, company announcements and created valuation models for ASX 300 businesses. Roger sits on the investment committee at KOSEC and also creates portfolio reviews for clients and contributes to all reports and publications.

Roger’s career and education has allowed him to develop strong interpersonal skills as well as a demonstrated ability to think laterally and assess the impact of economic data on the stock market. Roger has also developed leadership and organisational skills through his most recent role directing the transfer of the equity research team and processes from APP Securities to Everblu Capital.

Ivy is Kodari Securities emerging markets specialist with particular interest in Australian businesses that have footprints in the APAC region. Ivy sits on the Investment Committee meetings, is a contributor for research reports and also writes for our sister Kodari Lifestyle & Investments magazine. When analysing businesses Ivy looks at not only fundamental analysis but also specialises in dissecting qualitative features such as branding, thought leadership and goodwill.

Alongside her equities research work Ivy is completing her studies in Economics & Commerce, volunteers in the community and travels widely to develop her knowledge of economic growth in south-east Asia.
